TOPPS UTD AWAY

This was a match that the young Devils were in control for 45 mins out of the 50, but were still relieved to get a well deserved draw.In a solid and disciplined team performance it was no surprise when Henry scored from the edge of the area after some good pressure on the Topps defence by Joe. But what was a surprise that they did not increase their lead before half time considering their dominance of the half. The second half continued in the same manner as the first with the Devils looking likely to score the all important second.

However with less than 10 mins left the Devils went behind after conceding two goals in quick succession, after two lapses in defence by the whole team one from a throw in with no one dealing with the bouncing ball and a forward running on to score and another from a corner when it was turned in at the near post.

But it was Taylor who saved the day when Matthew found him out on the left and he skipped round one player and then shot from an acute angle to score a well taken and deserved equaliser. There was still time after this for the Devils to almost snatch a winner after a corner was scrambled away to safety by Topps. What a roller coaster day for the manager and the army of travelling fans, should have won, could have lost, but did very well to battle on to earn a draw.

Team : Liam, Ned, Kyle, Henry, Aaron, Taylor, Matthew, Les, Joe.

TILNEY AT HOME

In this home league game against Tilney it was a typical game of two halves.

With the Devils dominating the first half and going ahead when Matthew finished well after being put through by a combination of Henry and Aarons flicks. And he nearly made it two going just wide moments later. With some half chances going begging the half time whistle came without the Devils increasing their advantage despite having a lot of the possession.

With Tilney gaining the upper hand in the second half, the Devils nearly paid dearly for a below par performance when a Tilney forward missed a chance when clean through, and they also had a loud penalty appeal turned down for hand ball. But through good team work and determination the Devils somehow got to the final whistle with their lead intact to make it back to back wins, final score 1 – 0 to the devils.

In a friendly match afterwards Les made everyone’s day by scoring a goal, a just reward for his persistence over many games.

Team: Liam, Aaron, Henry, Kyle, Ned, Taylor, Josh, Joe, Finn, Les and Matthew.

3RD OCTOBER 2009

HILGAY AWAY

The young Devils secured their first points of the season with a excellent victory by 2 goals to nil, in away match against a strong Hilgay team.

Playing up the hill and with the wind slightly against them, the Devils took the lead after a tight start to the match, when Henry burst through and produced a brilliant shot across the goalkeeper and into the net. The Devils went further ahead after a tactical switch putting Matthew upfront and moving Kyle into the defence when Matthew produced a clinical finish after a neat pass from Taylor.

With Liam staying composed in goal and all the Devils squad doing well after getting a piece of the action. As the second half progressed the Devils became more dominant with Kyle putting in a excellent performance at the back. This allowed the Devils to push forward in the search for more goals although they did not score they had several good efforts with Matthew hitting the woodwork and Josh going very close right at the end, in a goal mouth scramble, with good displays from Ned, Joe, Aaron and Taylor bringing his training form to a match.

The Devils were good value for their victory. This gave the manager/coach a very happy journey home – more of the same boys please.

Team : Liam, Ned, Joe, Henry, Aaron, Taylor, Kyle, Matthew and Josh.

WOOTTONS HOME

For their first home League game of the season the Devils welcomed the Woottons. For this game the Devils started with Henry in midfield, and Ned with Joe at the back.

After an even start the Devils went behind when a shot managed to find its way underneath Liam and trickled into the net. As the half time whistle approached Matthew fired in a shot just wide of the post.

With Ned having his best game for the Devils and with Joe doing well beside him at the back. Half time came with the Devils still in confident mood despite being a goal behind. Just as the second half started the Devils were forced to make a few positional changes, and this proved unsettling for the team, and they conceded three more goals, although Kyle did well when asked to play in the defence.

The Devils still fought hard to the end trying to score their first goal of the season with Taylor and Aaron combining well , with Aaron shooting just wide. A four goal defeat was not a true reflection of the teams performance and must take on the positives from this game and move on to the next one.

Team : Liam, Ned, Joe, Henry, Aaron, Taylor, Kyle, Les, Josh, Matthew.

FELTWELL AWAY

For their first game of the 2009/10 season, the Devils under 11s made the long journey to play a Feltwell team that had joined the league having won the South Norfolk League the previous year.

Having been told how good Feltwell could be the Devils still seemed to be on their summer holidays and were 2 – 0 down after only four minutes the second goal a excellent long range shot from near the half way line.

On a very hot morning it looked as if it was going to be a bit of a nightmare. But having got to grips with Feltwell’s best player the Devils played a lot better. With Henry, Ned and Joe doing a good job in defence and Liam making some good saves. And having also made some substitutions one of which was Matthew who made his debut for the Devils, they got to half time without conceding any more goals.

The second half began with the devils matching Feltwell but did not manage to create a clear chance. Despite Kyle’s hard work up front. To the surprise of Devils supporters the ref stopped the game for a drinks break and this disrupted the Devils momentum and they went on to let in two more goals despite the tireless running off Aaron, Taylor and Les in midfield and this made the final score 4 – 0 to Feltwell.

A good performance in the end, but the Devils must learn to start from the first whistle.

Team : Liam, Ned, Henry, Aaron, Taylor, Joe, Matthew, Les, Kyle.

Wells Town 2 - Docking Devils 1 - 06/12/08

The Devils went to Wells for a friendly fixture with three players unavailable and some of the team playing despite not being 100% fit.

Playing against the wind in the first half the Devils struggled to deal with long balls played in by Wells, and Liam had to be alert on more than one occasion to keep the home side at bay.

When Ned picked up a foot injury following a tackle he was replaced by Dom who was standing in for the Devils, as this was just a friendly match.

Wells went ahead following a misunderstanding between Liam and Finn, allowing a player to pinch the ball and pass it to his forward for an easy tap in. The Devils couldn't find a response in the first half and rarely threatened to score, but defended well and were happy to get to half time only 1-0 down.

For the second half Wells made one or two changes and this allowed the Devils to gain the upper hand and dominate possession, and they created a hatful of chances before finally drawing level through a well taken free kick by Dom.

Unfortunately, against the run of play, Docking went behind again when they allowed a Wells player to to surge through from the edge of the area and square the ball for his team mate, who finished well into the roof of the net.

The Devils still pressed hard for a deserved equaliser but a combination of good goalkeeping and wayward finishing saw Wells hang on for a fortunate victory.

This was a good team performance by the Devils in freezing conditions on a difficult surface, but for the second week running the team didn't make the most of their chances in front of goal.

Let's hope this changes for next week's game away to league leaders Topps United.

Finally, a big thank you to Huw for refereeing at such short notice.

Team: Liam, Joe, Ned, Kyle, Aaron, Finn, Laisrian, Dom.

Docking Devils 0 - East Lynn 0 - 29/11/08

The Devils welcomed East Lynn who were in second place in the league prior to this week's fixtures, so the home side knew they faced a stiff test.

In a pulsating game, it was Liam in the Devils' goal who once again showed what an asset he is to the team by making a fine smothering save to deny an East Lynn forward from opening the scoring.

As the half progressed, the Devils came more into the match and were standing firm against a strong East Lynn side. Ned had a goal-bound shot blocked by his own player in a tight half, where chances were limited by some good defending from both teams and the half ended with the teams locked at 0-0.

In the second half the Devils went up a gear and did everything but score, going agonisingly close on several occasions. With good efforts from Kyle shooting wide when well placed, a thunderous free kick from Henry which was well saved and, after a fine run by Aaron, a shot at goal when perhaps he should have passed for an easy tap in.

It must be said that the East Lynn goalkeeper had a very good game with some excellent handling in difficult conditions.

The game ended with the Devils still pressing hard for the winner, but it wasn't to be and the game finally finished with the sides tied at 0-0.

This was an excellent performance from the team with Henry putting in his most disciplined display at the back, well aided by Joe and backed up by Liam in goal. With Finn, Kyle, Taylor and Ned in midfield making good tackles and also getting forward when they could to help Aaron, who worked tirelessly for the team.

This result proves what the team can do and matches last year's points tally already. Les and Josh also played very well in the friendly after the game which also finished 0-0.

Well done, boys.

Team: Liam, Joe, Henry, Ned, Kyle, Taylor, Aaron, Josh, Laisrian.

Tilney 0 Docking Devils 2 - 22/11/08

The Devils played Tilney in a league game for the second Saturday running and were expecting a much harder match this time round, after winning comfortably at home the week before.

Playing in a bitterly cold wind, the Devils had the wind at their backs in the first half and won a succession of corners, but failed to make the most of their territorial advantage and, in fact, it was Liam in the Devils' goal who had to make a smart save to prevent Tilney from taking the lead.

Finally the Devils made the most of their possession when Aaron fired them in front following good work by Finn on the edge of the area. But, despite taking the lead, the Devils couldn't get the second goal they wanted before half time to make for an easier second half.

In an end to end second half, the Devils team had to defend as a unit to keep a much improved Tilney at bay. Chances came at each end, with both teams hitting the post, before Kyle finally settled the manager's nerves with a classic poacher's goal, stabbing the ball home from close range.

The Devils went on to keep a clean sheet for the second week running, which is down to a good team spirit and everyone playing for each other.

This result puts the team in a position where they can start looking upwards rather than at the teams below them, and there is no reason why they can't win against the teams near the top of the table if they believe in themselves.

Team - Liam, Ned, Henry, Taylor, Kyle, Finn, Aaron, Joe.

Docking Devils 8 Tilney 0 - 15/11/08

The Devils secured three points with an emphatic win over a sporting Tilney side, thanks to some clinical finishing in front of goal.

After dominating the game from the start, but not creating any chances, the Devils took the lead when Aaron volleyed a clearance from the Tilney keeper straight back past him and into the net. Kyle then made it 2-0 with a stunning shot after a good break down the right by Ned.

The Devils were well on top now with confidence high throughout the team and they made their possession count with three more goals before the break from Aaron, Kyle and Henry.

With the team well in control the whole squad rotated with changes at regular intervals, but this didn't stop the goals from coming, with two more from Kyle and FInn getting his first in Docking colours, which was well deserved for all his hard work.

Tilney deserve praise for not giving up and only some fine defending from Joe and hard tackling from Ned made sure the Devils kept a clean sheet.

This was a good squad performance, but the Devils must not treat next week's return fixture with Tilney as an easy three points, as the friendly after the match showed Tilney will come out and give it their all, and we must be ready for them.

Team - Liam, Ned, Henry, Taylor, Kyle, Finn, Aaron, Joe, Josh, Laisrian.

DOCKING DEVILS 1 v REFFLEY B 2 - 01/11/08

This morning's mid-table league fixture at home to Reffley B was a very even match, decided by the odd goal in three in favour of Reffley.

After a very even start to the game the Devils went behind when the defence was caught in possession and a goal-bound shot was deflected in off Henry, with Liam left stranded in goal.

It was a hard fought game with the defences mainly in control until Henry unleashed a thunderous freekick from long range, which flew into the net to bring the Devils right back into the game. At half time, the teams were locked at 1-1.

However, no sooner had the second half begun when the Devils went behind again, following a mix up between two Devils players which allowed a Reffley player to nip in, pinch the ball and take it on to shoot past Liam.

This was a disappointing set back, but with Finn at his tenacious best in midfield, the Devils pushed hard for the equaliser, but couldn't find a way past a strong Reffley defence for a deserved point.

This was a disappointing result for the Devils, who were punished for their mistakes by the visitors.

On reflection, this match proved how far this team has come in the past year, with everyone feeling disappointed about the result, even though it was a close game.

Let's get back on track for our next game away to Tilney, boys.

Team: Liam, Ned, Henry, Josh, Finn, Kyle, Laisrian, Henry, Aaron, Taylor.

 DOCKING DEVILS 3 v HEACHAM 3 - 25/10/08

With a free weekend, the Devils welcomed Heacham from the First Division in a friendly fixture.

Although Heacham only had six players available, several of them were very skillful on the ball and this made for a very even match coming up against the Devils' spirited play, and it was the Devils who took the lead against the run of play, with Henry scoring after a determined run.

Kyle, who was playing in goal this week due to players being unavailable, had already made some good saves, but could not prevent Heacham taking the lead when they scored two quick goals.

It was end to end now and an exciting game to watch for a large crowd, when Henry scored with a tremendous long range shot after his initial freekick had been blocked, making the score 2-2 at half time.

The Devils started the second half playing well as a team and took the lead after a fine move down the right, involving Henry passing to Finn who played in a fine ball to Aaron, who controlled the ball well before despatching a low volley into the corner of the net.

The Devils continued to battle well as the game ebbed and flowed, with chances coming at both ends. But it was Heacham who levelled to make the score 3-3 at the final whistle, which was probably a fair reflection of the match.

Thanks to Heacham for a sporting contest, which was well refereed by Iain, who stepped in at the last minute.

This was the best team performance of the season so far. Keep it up for the league games to come, boys.

Team: Ned, Henry, Josh, Finn, Kyle, Laisrian, Henry, Aaron, Taylor.

DOCKING DEVILS 2 v WOOTTONS 4 - 18/10/08

In the league knock-out cup, the Devils played the Woottons, who were a strong looking side from a higher division.

With almost perfect playing conditions at Docking playing field, the Woottons were soonin their stride, scoring two early goals and making the most of some hesitant Devils defending and play in general.

As half time was approaching, henry's freekick was deflected in off the top of the wall and into the net to reduce the arrears to a single goal. This gave the Devils renewed belief, which perhaps they should have had at the start and they finished the half well, and still very much in the match.

With the wind behind them, the Devils had a large home crowd hoping for the comeback to continue, but this didn't happen, with the Woottons taking a firm grip on the game by scoring two further goals.

To their credit, the Devils never stopped trying and Kyle toe-poked his sixth goal of the season to once again give the home side renewed hop of salvaging something from the game.

After this, both sides had chances to extend the scoring, but neither team managed to capitalise on their opportunities and at the the final whistle the score was 4-2 to the Woottons.

the Devils need to show more belief in their own ability and not worry how good the opposition are, and also pla yas a team by passing more to each other and not think about who is scoring the goals to progress as a team in future games.

Overall, a good show against a strong Wootton side.

Team: Liam, Ned, Henry, Josh, Finn, Kyle, Laisrian, Henry, Aaron, Taylor.
